<image:title>Join the carbon farm network - What is the Carbon Farm Network?</image:title>
<image:caption>The New York Carbon Farm Network is an interdependent group of small brands and independent designers who want to source Climate Beneficial™ fibers from farms that are implementing Carbon Farm Practices on their lands. Our Carbon Farm Network is organized as a purchasing cooperative, where designers work collaboratively to source fibers and make yarns for the commercial production of textile products. Our Carbon Farm Network supports Carbon Farm Planning on the farms we are partnered with. Together the cooperative purchase fiber from regional farms and make yarns in order to meet minimums. ** Designers who are not members of their Carbon Farm Network can still purchase these yarns at sampling prices. The Carbon Farm Network is also open to adding new members. For more information click here to visit the CFN website!</image:caption>

<image:title>Join the carbon farm network - What is Carbon Farming?</image:title>
<image:caption>Carbon Farming is the adoption and implementation of agricultural practices intended to reduce, sequester, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions on farms. Climate beneficial practices associated with Carbon Farming can provide additional benefits to farms by improving water quality, increasing profitability, promoting community relations, reducing energy use and adapting to climate change and extreme weather events.</image:caption>

<image:title>Join the carbon farm network - How are we supporting Carbon Farming?</image:title>
<image:caption>The CFN membership fees help fund Carbon Farm Planning on the farms we partner with. The amount of yarn we produce depends on the capacities of the landscapes in our bioregion. This approach promotes sustainable growth and shared responsibility for resource use and regeneration as we create textiles. Our CFN is democratically governed, fosters collaboration, and supports the growth of small to mid-sized businesses. This ensures that everyone involved has a role in producing and marketing Climate Beneficial™ textiles and clothing. Our yarns are verified through our affiliate Fibershed organization.</image:caption>

<image:title>pre-dyeing treatment - MORDANTING WOOL, SILK, AND OTHER PROTEIN FIBERS</image:title>
<image:caption>1.Weigh out the fiber. This is the WOF “weight of fiber”. 2. Measure alum at 15% WOF, or iron at 2%. 3. Dissolve mordant in a non-reactive container. 4. Add the dissolved chemical to a dye pot with enough water to cover the fiber. 5. SLOWLY bring the temperature up to a low simmer (45 min). 6. Allow to cool (20 min). 7. Rinse fiber before submerging into dye solution.</image:caption>

<image:title>pre-dyeing treatment - MORDANTING COTTON & OTHER CELLULOSE FIBERS</image:title>
<image:caption>Tannin (tannic acid) is one of the few mordants readily absorbed by cellulose fibers. Once mordanted with tannin, other mordants combine well with the fiber. 1. Weigh out the fiber (WOF) 2. Measure tannin at 10% WOF. (Myrobalan at 15% WOF) 3. Dissolve mordant in a non-reactive container (stainless steel, plastic, glass or enamel). 4. Add the dissolved chemical to a dye pot with enough water to cover the fiber. 5. SLOWLY bring the temperature up to a low simmer (45 min). 6. Allow to cool (20 min). 7. Rinse fiber before submerging into dye solution. The method outlined above is called pre mordanting (mordanting prior to dyeing). This is the method most frequently used. Occasionally the mordant is added directly to the dye bath, this is called meta mordanting. Mordants can also be added to the fiber after dyeing (post mordanting). Use the ratios Alum at 15% WOF Iron at 2% WOF Tannin at 10% WOF Myrobalan at 15% WOF (Weight of Fiber x %= weight of mordant or dyestuff)</image:caption>

<image:title>our process - Our Philosophy</image:title>
<image:caption>In industrial textile supply chains, designers are often disconnected from the farms where fibers are grown and the mills that produce their textiles. These supply chains prioritize efficiency and centralized growth, leading to opacity, greed, distrust, and competition. By working together, we can create distributed networks that mimic the mutual benefits found in natural systems. Distributed supply networks promote transparency, trust, and collaboration. They allow designers to add deeper value to their products, not just for profit, but for the well-being of people and the environment.</image:caption>
